Supporting Domestic Violence Victims Through Mary’s Place
Some Startling Statistics:
- Washington state has one of the highest rates of domestic violence victimization in the country, ranking in the top 10 states with the most female victims.
- More than 41% of women in Washington have faced intimate partner violence, rape, or stalking, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Mary’s Place ensures that no child sleeps outside by centering equity and opportunity for women and families. The organization has seen an increase in the number of families fleeing violent situations as a result of the pandemic and financial hardships. Mary’s Place provides victims of domestic violence and their children safe shelter and resources to find housing and stability.
Our Impact
Helping Families Move Closer to Lifesaving Pediatric Care
As one of the top-rated children’s hospitals in the country, Seattle Children’s Hospital has over 300,000 patient visits every year. For families with a child who needs ongoing care, close accommodations are critical for reducing not just stress, but additional financial burdens.
Cedar Crossing, a project of Bellwether Housing and Mercy Housing Northwest, is one Seattle initiative looking to help families like these facing housing instability. This affordable housing community offers 20 apartments specifically for those families who have a child receiving ongoing care at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Through collaborations with Ronald McDonald House and Seattle Children’s Hospital, more families are finding affordable, longer-term accommodations close to critical pediatric care so they can focus on helping their child heal.
How We Help
Giving Back to Our Community
For the many women escaping abuse, a quick, professional move gives them one less thing to worry about on the path toward a safer, brighter future. That’s why our team provides one free move a month to guests of Mary’s Place looking for a new, safe place to call home. As part of our ongoing partnership, our company takes care of moving labor and associated costs for an individual or family relocating from the center to more permanent housing. Every move is one step closer to a stronger, more peaceful community here in Seattle.
Having a child in and out of the hospital is one of the most difficult situations a family can face. Settling into a new home shouldn’t add to that stress. That’s why we’ve collaborated with Children’s Hospital and Bellwether Housing to offer charitable moving services to families relocating from Ronald McDonald House or other temporary accommodations into Cedar Crossing. Our team makes moving day a positive experience through a quick, professional move. We handle the moving logistics so they can focus on their family.
