FAQs

Do moving companies have insurance?

Yes, reputable movers are required to carry insurance. At Adam’s Moving Service, you’ll be happy to know that we are fully insured. We offer three types of valuation on moving day:

  1. Basic Value Protection: Free of charge, compensation is $0.60 per pound for a damaged item.
  2. Replacement Cost Coverage, with deductible: We will repair the damage to your satisfaction, pay you for the lost or damaged articles (less the $300 deductible), or replace the lost or damaged article for any amount over the $300 deductible. The $300 deductible applies to the entire shipment rather than each individual article. This level of coverage costs $1.15 per $100 of declared value. The value declared must be at least $5.00 times the net weight of the shipment.
  3. Replacement Cost Coverage, with no deductible: We will repair damage to your satisfaction, reimburse you for the replacement cost, or replace lost or damaged articles. This level of protection costs $1.40 per $100 of your declared value of the entire shipment. The value declared must be at least $5.00 times the net weight of the shipment.

Additional insurance and liability information can be found on pages 4-6 of the Washington State Consumer Handbook.

For those looking for additional protection, check with your insurance provider to see if you qualify for temporary “contents insurance.”

Some companies may require a deposit or down payment before services begin. At Adam’s Moving Service, we require a small deposit upfront to reserve your moving date.

Do moving companies take apart furniture?

Yes, moving companies generally take apart larger pieces of furniture to load furniture on and off the truck safely. This is included as part of our regular moving services at Adam’s Moving Service. Items such as sectionals, couches, large dining sets, and other similar pieces may require some dismantling before loading; however, our crews will reassemble any pieces once unloaded at your final destination.

Do moving companies provide boxes?

How do I prepare for movers?

It’s essential to prepare for your moving team so everything goes smoothly on moving day. Weeks before you plan on moving, start sorting through your items and get rid of anything you don’t plan on keeping. Tossing or donating unwanted items helps to clear up space and lighten your moving load. To begin the moving process, stock up on packing supplies. Make sure you label boxes thoroughly, making a note of fragile or essential items. Marking each box with a room designation is helpful, too. For important personal belongings and paperwork, we recommend packing them separately and setting them aside. Some people prefer to pack a suitcase of things they need immediately, such as a change of clothes, toiletries, and more. Take photos of your belongings, and review your plan with Adam’s Moving Service before the big day.

What is the best way to move my TV(s)?

We highly recommend a box for all TVs, especially newer/thinner models. If you do not have the original box, please purchase one before arrival. If you choose not to use a box, we will wrap and protect that item to the best of our ability using furniture pads.

Can we use bags to pack items?

We ask that items be packed into boxes and that the tops and bottoms are taped. Plastic bags tend to rip and tear and are more difficult to load into the moving truck.

How can I pay for services?

We accept all major debit and credit cards and will process payment after services onsite. If you or a representative will not be on site after the moving project, please notify us before your move date to discuss alternative payment options. Checks and cash are not accepted for payment.

Gratuities are graciously accepted for a job well done! Please be prepared with cash or a check if you plan to tip your crew. Venmo and other similar applications are utilized by many of our crew members and can be utilized if you inquire with them.

Do you charge for travel time?

Yes. We bill for round-trip travel to and from our North Seattle location near 130th and Aurora. After services, we calculate our return travel time by GPS. Travel and labor are billed at the same hourly rate.

Do I need to reserve parking for the truck?

No, that is not necessary. However, if you live in a high-density area of the city, we recommend purchasing “no parking” signs for the curb space directly in front of your home or building. That will ensure an efficient load-in/out process for our crew. You can purchase signs for residential parking through National Barricade. For metered parking, a temporary permit is needed with the city.

Can we leave the clothes in the drawers, or do we need to remove them?

We strongly recommend removing items from drawers prior to moving. Having belongings removed from furniture alleviates weight, makes the piece more manageable to maneuver, and reduces the risk of damage during transit. The drawers, however, can remain installed in the piece (dressers, desks, etc.).

Since our Seattle moving company first started, Adam’s Moving has taken great care in moving our customer’s fragile items.
