reliable movers

When you decide to move, you often have a short amount of time to get ready. This is why it’s so important to stay organized and be as efficient as possible. So to help you out, we’ve listed a few important steps to follow in the weeks leading up to your moving day.

Five to Eight Weeks Before the Move

While it may seem like two months is plenty of time to get organized, packed, and ready to move, it’s really not all that much time. So now is the time to get your act together. Get organized by getting all of your packing supplies and take the time to actually go through your belongings. With the average U.S. home having 300,000 things in it, there’s probably a lot of items you can get rid of. This will make organizing and packing much easier. Additionally, now is the time to start looking into moving companies. When you need help moving, reliable movers can take care of your belongings properly and help reduce your overall moving expenses.

Two to Four Weeks Before the Move

When you’re about a month out from moving day, you should start packing. However, don’t start by packing items you use every day. You should start by packing non-essential items, like off-season clothing. When it gets down to two weeks before the move, you should start packing items like kitchenware and clothing. Now is also the time to set up utilities at your new home so you can be all set when you arrive. If you need to make arrangements for pets, plants, or super valuable items to be transported separately, you should also do that now.

One Week Before the Move

If you have any packing you haven’t done yet, kick it into super-speed mode and get it done. You should pack a bag of your essential items, like a phone charger, your toothbrush, and a change of clothes, to keep with you on moving day. Go through your boxes and make sure everything is labeled and sealed properly. If you have any valuables, make sure those are kept separate. And lastly, confirm moving time with your movers — even if you hired reliable movers, it never hurts to double check.

There is an endless number of tasks you need to get done before you move. Hopefully, this checklist will help you stay organized and make your move go as smoothly as possible.
