Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to keep both your temperature and frustrations low.
Start early: If you can, book an appointment your movers as early in the day as possible. This will not only help you beat the afternoon heat, but it could lower your moving cost as well. Early mornings will offer much cooler weather and give you the rest of the day to unpack at your leisure.
Stay hydrated: Dehydration is one of the many dangers of moving on a hot, sunny day. Whether you’re moving furniture or just carrying a few boxes, it’s important to stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will help you replenish your body with the water it needs to make it through the day. Don’t forget to offer your moving company workers water too!
Dress appropriately: Clothing can make a big difference when moving day comes around. You should wear something that consists of lightweight, breathable fabric to absorb sweat. Additionally, try to avoid wearing dark clothing. Dark clothing will attract and absorb the sunlight, making you hotter.
Pack thoughtfully: It’s important to think about the heat while packing. Remember, not all items do well in the heat. So don’t pack items that can melt or easily overheat in the hot moving truck. Instead, consider putting these items in the car with you or move them separately to avoid heat damage.
Consider utilities: When you get to your new place, you’re going to want to soak up the AC. But, you can’t really do that if you don’t turn on the utilities ahead of time. So do yourself a favor and make sure your utilities are all taken care of before you move — this way, you and your movers can enjoy a nice, cool home to unpack in.
